2023 Board of Directors

Charles Smulevitz moved to Long Beach in 2004 where he resides with his wife and four children. Charles grew up in West Hempstead and, after getting married, lived in Hillcrest for 10 years.

Charles is entering his second term as president of the Young Israel of Long Beach.

Azi Langer was born and raised in Long Beach. He and his extended family have davened in YILB for over 45 years. He is The International Coordinator for the MirYam Institute. He graduated Touro College in 2018. He has published in the Times of Israel and worked on a number of political campaigns prior to joining the MirYam Institute

Yanky Koenig grew up in Kew Garden Hills and is married to Shoshana. They have 3 wonderful children, Gavriel, Sarah & Shaina. He works as a assistant teacher in special education for the New York Department of Ed for over 23 yrs. He volunteered for the Long Beach Fire Department for nearly 11 years, as an EMT.

Sami Schindelheim has been a member of YILB for close to 35 years. Her family celebrated Brises, Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, Afrufs, and Sheva Brachos at the Young Israel where her 5 children grew up. She is a former Sisterhood President and now serves on the Chesed Committee. Sami is the President of the Daroma Chapter of Amit Women.

Adrian Magendzo is adjunct professor of management and entrepreneurship at Hofstra University in NY and senior consultant at the Science, Technology, and Innovation Division of the Interamerican Development Bank. Prior to this served as an economic attaché to the Chilean embassy in Washington, D.C and led the Innovation and Entrepreneurship policy division for the Chilean Government.
